On the 1st of November 2021 Enve Dog Food will be closing.
Firstly we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Below we have set out our personal food recommendations, our guide to picking a good product and our complete honest reasons for closure.
Our Personal Food Recommendations
Canagan In our opinion you won’t find a better UK made Dry Food Brand than Canagan and along with that, the best ethos of caring for your furry kids, it’s the backbone of their business. https://www.canagan.co.uk/
Orijen And Acana is quite frankly the very best Dry Pet Food on the planet today and we can say that as we had the pleasure of visiting them for a week and saw the whole operation of producing their ranges in September 2018 in Canada. As an example, the Orijen 6 Fish we saw being produced, was caught the day before. Don’t get me wrong, facilities here in the UK are fantastic but very hard to match what Canada is able to do in farming etc and all incredibly ethical. https://www.orijenpetfoods.co.
Pets Corner St Albans
For our St Albans and surrounding area customers both the above are available at Pets Corner, where you can get great advice from their fantastic staff. https://www.petscorner.co.uk/
Nemo & Crew
For our Small Breed customers the same food is available from the following link from a great friend of ours that does all of our social media and is a huge Dachshund fan with their own dedicated Youtube channel and following, which many of you would have been recommended by her to us, you can get the same range here now. https://nemoandcrew.com/
Consider Raw Feeding
Our other recommendation would be Raw feeding and if you’re happy to do it, there really is no better thing you can do for your furry kids, it’s just not for everyone. https://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/
Guidelines to picking a good product for your furry kids (personal opinion only)
Picking a good food by the label or ingredients list on a website is quite simple. Ingredients go in order of what the bag is made up of the most, so a good food will start off with meat first and should say freshly prepared, or deboned and the meat should of course match the flavour of the bag.
Example beef below.
Ingredients: Beef 50% (including Freshly Prepared Angus Beef 28%, Dried Beef 19% & Beef Fat 3%), Sweet Potato (26%), Potato, Peas (5%), Linseed, Beet Pulp, Minerals, Vitamins, Omega 3 Supplement, Vegetable Stock, Carrot (<0.1%), FOS (96 mg/kg), MOS (24 mg/kg)
So you will see a percentage of fresh/deboned or words to that description, describing fresh meat and then a percentage of dry meat that should make up a minimum of 50%. I wouldn’t feed my furry kids on anything less than 50% meat in any product. The higher the meat content the higher the price (you pay for what you get). 90% of everything else you read should be clear and simple to understand I.e vegetables minerals etc and those all vary depending on everyone’s take on things, but the most important part is the meat content, which should just shine through and be a the star of the show and if it isn’t don’t touch it.
The honest reason for Enve closure (Including our passionate thoughts on how you can help support small businesses)
Enve has always been about helping rescues with profit after running costs turned into food donations and was the reason we kept running Enve after we sold our 27 year old retail store to Pets Corner in St Albans, in early 2019.
The world of retail has changed so much over the years, but so has a large majority of its customers.
We are only a husband and wife team and have always done our best to help anyone and go above and beyond to help people and their furry kids with a lot more than just food advice as that is what we are all about.
The rudeness and self importance in a lot of people because they’re spending money with you seems to be at an all time high these days and goes way beyond what we are prepared to put up with any longer as life is just too short and we are only human.
The rudeness in emails, the constant attempted abuse of coupon codes and referral points to beat down already good prices (good food isn’t cheap) with free delivery also, which incidentally isn’t delivered by unicorns so is not free to us or built into the price, as people think.
It just comes off of profit, as no one wants to pay for the convenience of having anything delivered to their door because of the Amazon era we live in.
Well small businesses are not Amazon and if people keep treating these more personal, smaller retailers of this country this way online and in stores, more will close and what will you be left with? Just big corporations that have no interest in you as a customer, as you’re just a number to them, when you’re far more to us.
So think about that when you shop small.
Treat people how you would like to be treated, we are after all only human and if you get great service be loyal, write a review and let other people know, you have no idea how much that means to a retailer or its staff.
And remember problems can happen no matter how efficient, because of so many moving parts to any retail business, so spare a thought the next time you decide to kick off at someone in a store because you’re slightly inconvenienced or write a one line email in the subject line like (where is my order) literally less than 24h after it was placed, or try to abuse a system just to get some more money off you think you’re somehow entitled to.
Now to the wonderful customers, especially the ones that stuck with us after the store closure, we are very sorry we are closing and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your loyalty and custom, there just simply isn’t enough of you and I hope the guide and recommendations above help you to transition to other great brands that really have your furry kids best interests at heart or just use my read the label guide to pick your own great food and you will be fine, there are lots out there just forget the big corp and supermarket brands, you’re just a number and your furry kids health is far from their minds.
We close our site on the 1st of November, so please make sure any points are used before then. We did this to give people enough time to find alternatives.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers, but life’s too short and after nearly 30 years in retail, with a heavy heart it’s time to say goodbye to retail, as it’s just nowhere near the fun or rewarding sector it used to be.
